KING MAS: It was an honor and a privilege to work with Mafuta “Max Afri” of AfriCreaxia productions. My # 100DaysInafrica journey was a blessing in so many ways but one of the highlights was the reception I received in the district of Gutu in Masvingo province (Zimbabwe). From the warm reception received by the people in the village streets to the many lessons I learned from the village head, I have been deeply enriched by the experiences I have had and I am grateful to have been granted access to sacred areas that few others have been given the honor to trod. Blessings be upon each and every individual who played a part in the manifestation of this visual and I give homage to the ancestors who opened the way. Last but not least, I give thanks to my empress and her family for embracing me as a son of the soil.

 

LOCATION: Gutu, Zimbabwe

 

The lake is called Mushaviri and is the water supply of Gutu. The tree is called “Muonde” in Shona or Sycamore tree in English. The dance is Mbakumba. Originating from Gutu, it’s a post-harvest dance. It is done in appreciation of good harvest to “Musikavanhu” – The Creator.
